Scientific and Social Steps for an Aging Turkey During the Respect for the Elderly Week, March 18–24
Yapılış Tarihi | 18 March 2026, Wednesday
In addition to academic studies, the center teams that regularly conduct home visits aim to make elderly individuals feel that they are not alone and to support their social and emotional needs. These visits, conducted regularly every year, stand out as an important social support mechanism aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly.
The workshops organized within the center bring together practices that support healthy aging with the community. Through activities with physical, cognitive, and psychosocial content, individuals are supported to have an active and productive aging process. In addition, with thematic events, art exhibitions, and various awareness activities, it is aimed to make the issue of aging more visible at the societal level.
Evaluating the activities of the center, which continues its work in strong cooperation with internal and external stakeholders, Center Director Prof. Dr. Deniz Say Şahin drew attention to Turkey's demographic transformation and used the following expressions:
“We are now an aging country. Therefore, scientific studies and policies to be developed in the field of aging are of great importance. Being in the field and being able to identify the real problem is very important for making the right plans. In line with our university's Social Contribution policy, as MAKÜ YAŞAM, we are with our elderly wherever they are, in their homes, villages, Quran courses, workplaces, fields, gardens, and ceremonies. We will continue to contribute to this process with both academic production and practices that touch the field.”
Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Center for Aging Studies Application and Research, with these multidimensional studies conducted on the occasion of Respect for the Elderly Week, continues to enhance the quality of life of elderly individuals and to spread awareness of healthy aging in society.
